ok maybe I'm having a bad day, I have had 2007 for a few months and I usually muck about and find everything I need, but every once in a while I get thrown a curve ball, and possibly through frustration dig myself into a hole...

I just spend about an hour trying to get my report to group correctly, all the while I did have it right on the first try, but I kept flipping between Report View and Design...and it did not work...I should have picked Print Preview....arghhh

I like to use the wizard to start off my reports ( cuz I'm lazy :), well MS was kind enough to add a "layout Grouping" which locks the controls together, and doesn't let you ungroup with the Ungroup button (which also isn't very clear)...I had to right click the control and choose layout> "Remove" Pretty obvious huh ( not!)

Oh I could go on, but I just wanted to vent.

Computer software is not logic. Think about how designs it. Illogical humans.

IMHO, because software/computers are logical, but humans are not. That is why computers/software (logical and structured) is not very intuitive to (illogical, unstructured) humans. Most humans do not think alike or even view things the same. Just ask the eye witness to a crime and see how many different answers you get. Software requires an investment in training so that the users can memorized how it works. Like with Access, it is all about memorization of how it works. This is especially true for database applications. Computers just do not have a very human friendly interface (Screen, keyboard, and pointing devices like that crazy mouse).

Keep on memorizing how Access works ...:D

geez Coach do you have to bust my bubble lol, while I hear what you are saying, for sure the things I was whining about will be memorized...but ( see now you made me complain more)......

No amount of memorization will get me to like the short sited "Navigation Pain", I find it to be a major setback in particular because it is not undockable, it was so much more useful as a "Window" which just sat in the back when not active and you just click on a corner to bring it up front... and because it no longer shows the Object properties Descriptions....I have setup so many databases where I commented the object for one reason or another and now can't see those descriptions.

Have you installed the hot fix for SP2?

I know I have SP2, but if you are saying there is another special patch after that that doesn't automatically update, then I may not have it...I'll have to look on my laptop later

I am not sure if the hotfix for SP2 in the first link I provided is one that is done automatically with the Office Update service.

Other have felt your pain over the Navigation Pane or is it really the Navigation Pain the A__! :D

There are also some replace database containers that may be what you want:

What happened to the Database Window in Access 2007?
You will find some free database containers that you can use.

This link has a good idea about creating a custom form to display the objects.

One thing I noticed with the navigation objects is, if you hover over them...it displays the name of the object you are pointing to...this is redundant and I would bet the intention would have been to display the description? Hopefully they can fix these minor glitches.

I just checked MS Office updates and picked the "Custom" option and I am all up to date, so there is no solution there.

Thanks Coach.

Coach, I'm glad you gave me those links, I haven't tested them but this Add-in definitely looks like what I need...in fact it is better than previous versions because it floats outside of Access so I can have it on my second monitor.

I'm not Hating Access 2007 so much now :)

Hey Coach...I used this link from one of the ones you suggested... I found this version to work the best, but since getting my Hard drives replaced the addin won't load

any ideas? looking in options under COM Addins I see DBWindows is unchecked and message showing Load Behavior: Not Loaded. A runtime error occurred during loading of the COM Add-in.

I found this to be the best replacement I could find

This is an old thread

BUT - not only do I hate Access 2007 - I am not too keen on Excel 2007. All of a sudden I am having to goto help to find out how to insert a column even.

I know it's old, but I figured he might be subscribed to it still and would get a notification.

Hey Welcome to the Club lol...don't you feel like a moron using 2007, I know I've found most things I need, but there are so many little quirky things you do that are "second nature" that you know find yourself staring endlessly at the Ribbon menus waiting for it to jump out at you or end up googling.

Yesterday I went to split a database for the first time (in 2007), I found it eventually...I won't spoil it for you I bet even if you have found it before in 2007, you'll spend a minute looking for it

In general it really only comes down to teaching an "old dog" new tricks, the absolute thing I hate the most about Access 2007 is the navigation pain and losing the DB window, and ideally they should have provided "Classic" view options

The Classic Menus for Office 2007 addin solves any concern about menus.
http://www.addintools.com/english/menuoffice/

It adds a new ribbon containing the classic menu structure.

Personally I find the 07 interface an improvement. You just have to break the old mindset. Muttering expletives about it only distracts from finding what you are looking for.

I'm with Galaxiom there. Most definitely an improvement.

I like it and will be glad when we transition over to 2007 at work. It took me a while to get used to the changes but I like some of the new stuff as well and am looking forward to being able to take advantage of that.

Rather than using help in Access which I find as useful as a fanny full of cement go to a forum or search the web. I simply do not undertstand why the help is so obscure, its a bit like getting Homeserve to fix your boiler.

Simon

I find it useful actually. There are certain definitions that's on there regarding an object (for example) that don't get mentioned elsewhere. However, it's not very intuitive.
