Hi guys, this is me again,

I'm facing a problem with MS Access reports. I'm currently designing a small tabase used by the HR department. All it does is enter the infromation in eah received C.V. each C.V. has a unique number, which is an auto number, I named it [PK].

the Education Qualification written in each C.V. must also be entered in the database, so I designed a table for these qualification and I named it [Education] with a primary key [Serial] which is an auto number.

we enter the education qualification i.e. the certificates and the degrees starting from the highest i.e. Ph.D then Masters then Bachelor then high school. that is the highest degree has the smallest primary key [Serial]

the problem is:
I want to generate a report containing the candidate name and his HIGHEST degree. How can I do that ?

for any further questions please ask!

any help will be very much appreciated !

Try the attachment below :

edu.db I have created some similar tables to those decirbed and two querys using an aggregate 'min' function on the educational ranking index to return the 'highest' educational attribute per person. Runnig Query2 returns each person with their highest qualification.

NB. The ranking index is allocated depending upon the importance or - how 'highly ranked' that qualification is in your system.

this is an Access 97 db but the fundamental principles are the same.

Let me know if this helps.

Convert

You can convert the DB yourself. Tools - Database Utilities - Convert Database!!

I already tried this, but still it's not running!!

GJT, you have Workgroups set up on this db, so it won't allow an unauthorized person to open it. CSCS, open a blank database and Import all of the objects from edu.mdb into it.
