Ok,

I have a form that has a date, a memo box to put daily notes and a subform that contains a list of employees. using a query, I pick a certian employees name and any note that is linked to the chosen employee is placed on a report.

I thought this is what the boss wanted, but, as usual, its not.

He would like only certian sentences in the memo box linked to certian employees.

Can this be done.....? Our work area is divided into four groups. our 17 employees can work in any area and the daily notes of the days activities can be quit long.

For instance. If employee John doe performed some welding. thats all he wants to see on John doe's report. He does not want to see other items such as bills painting or bobs machine work.

I'm lost.........

Pat is right but I'll state it a different way just to be sure you don't misunderstand. Of course I'll add my two cents' worth.

When you want to select something out of a larger group of similar somethings, you have to have data in each individual something to support the selection.

So if, for example, you wanted to be able to select only Tom's notes, you would have to have a text box - separate from the notes - where you could find the name Tom.

If you wanted to select only notes on welding jobs, you would have to have a text box separate from the notes where you would find the keyword Welding.

In other words, if you know what you need for later selection, make sure you GET what you need for later selection. Make the keyword and name (and any other required) fields separate from the notes and MANDATORY on your form.

If you are talking about arbitrary sentence parsing as a way to find what you wanted, all I can say is, "Good Luck!" That is a class of problem that still hasn't been solved by lots of big-name commercial software houses. Case in point - language translation programs. Run something through an English to French translator. Then go back and run the output through a French to English translator. Prepare to laugh. Sentence parsing is not a trivial problem.
