I am trying to design a customer/transaction database for my parent's office. I built up the file using office 2000's access and recently switched over to 2007. I'm still in the kinks of figuring out the new layout, but a problem that I can't seem to figure out is how to install a search function in the access file:

So say I wanted to search for a customer's name, how would I do this? The sites I'm using as reference don't seem to cover it in much detail other than simple/complex sorts. I want to create a function where I would just type the name and a form would then be created of all the records relating to the search results.

How would I do this for different fields on the table?

I used some old expired data to use as a test and thus far the closest I can get is by manually adding a customer name to a seperate table and using that table in a query to search another table so that I can pull out the names. The issue comes up when I when I run into customers with the same name, all of the data gets mixed together and doesn't get clearly sorted at all. I found a very crude way to find names by manually searching tables, but I want to create something more user friendly since my parents aren't very good with computers and won't remember all of the steps.

I've attached the file if it helps to see what I'm talking about.

Ok it says I can't upload .mdb files so I'm going to use a third party site if that's fine.

Thanks for the help! I have a few other questions, but I don't want to go off topic on this thread, so I'll spend some more time trying to figure it out.

Is a macro what I should be working on? I have no clue how to create a macro so I guess I can start looking into it.

If you ZIP a DB you should be able to post it on the form provided it is not too large. This also make it easier for people who don't have broadband to look at the file.
