Immediate Iifs and buts

I thought I could use an Immediate If in a query to trim "/" off a long list of strings, some ending in "/", and some not.

I thought

IIf(Right([FieldA],1)="/",Mid([FieldA],1),[FieldA])

would do it, but I was wrong. Variations don't seem to work either. May I be guided by you experts, please?

NewField: IIf(Right([MyField], 1) = "/", Left([MyField], Len([MyField]) - 1), [MyField])
