Hi, now I have done this before and I do know how to do it.

Get External Data, Import and so on.

I select the relevant Excel file and when I click Open I get the following error...

“The wizard is unable to access information in the file U:\”THE FILE NAME”.xls. Please check that the file exists and is in the correct format.

It will not allow me to get as far as the next step in the wizard. Using any other Excel files and the wizard does as it shoudl do. But these files I have been given do not work for some unknown reason.

Anyone got any ideas why?

The files are saved in .xls format, they open up on my computer in Excel but will not import into Access?

Thanks
Will

Will,

If you can open them with Excel, then I use Excel to save the files into an older Excel format than the version of Access that you are using. This may allow the wizard to read them.

Hope this helps ...

Make sure your excel sheet has headers in the first row and its clean data. Sometimes with werid data access can't read it. Like blank fields etc..

The error was because the excel files where password protected. Once I removed the passwords, went in easy as. All sorted now.

Cheers
Will
