I'm new here, and inexperienced, be gentle.

I have next problem, at work i have to collect data at two points, separate computers, without real connection.

Let's say i collect next data at comp 1 - name, height
and I collect name, some height and weight at comp 2

at comp 1
peter, 189
john, 190
leon, 200

at comp 2
peter, 189, 78
John, ______, 82
james, _____, 100

How can i import data from db one to db two, so that I get a complete list of name, height,, weight at comp 2.

peter, 189, 78
john, 190, 82
james, _____, 100
leon, 200,______

tx for any help
i could throw in a sample database if neede (not sure about the policy)

First of all, what is the unique key that identifies the specific person? Are you sure there are no two Peters?.

Secondly, do the corresponding data fields in the two sources have the same name?

Thirdly, how are you going to handle any conflicting data? For example if CPU speed in computer1 in Source1 is 2.6 GHz but 2.8 GHz in Source2, which one should take precedence?

Is this a once only task or on going?

hey, tx for the reply.

it's an ongoing thing.

it will be the same base on two locations, so same field names.

each person has a pin of a kind, that is unique.

not sure about the comp question. Is it important? only 5 or 6 ppl will use the database and it's highly unlikely two would work with the same record at the same time (or at all, other then analyses).

I'm looking whether I could put the backend somewhere on the company lan, but that complicates things a lot.

There are up to ten records modified and sometimes added at location 1 per week. It might be easiest to just manually merge both files once per week.

You may be very right in a manual merge but then you are in the best position to judge this.

As far as the company lan..I do the same thing with our db..I have the backend sitting on a network share and the front end also sits on a network share and then create a batch file that installs on a person's pc individually.. so the only ones that need it would install it. Also you can keep control of your versions better and push out an updated version if needed..
