Hi
I am having trouble trying to import (manually) Excel 2007 spreadsheets into an Access 97 database on Windows XP.

I have an Excel 2007 workbook saved as .xlsx. When I try to import it by changing the "files of type" drop down list to "Excel" and typing in the file name of the 2007 file with the .xlsx file extension I get an error message

“The Wizard is unable to access information in the file ‘Filename’. Please check that that the file exists and is in the correct format.

I have changed the registry to allow .xlsx files to be imported, but still get the error.
I have changed the registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Jet\3.5\Engines\Text\DisabledExtensions
To include .xlsx

Any ideas you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

A97 will not import xlxs data. Save the A07 Workbook data as xls.

Definitely, as an FYI for you boscorelli, the new file types for Office 2007 are XML based and not like the old formats. So, there is just no possible way for an older program to read them as they are radically different from the one that was in existence when that program was made.

Excel 2007 spreadsheet can be saved as "Excel 97-2003 Workbooks" which can them be inported into A97.

Use

File > Save As > Excel 97-2003 Workbook

This is true. The saving must be done to specifically save to the correct format as just saving does so in the 2007 format, unless it either started out as a different format, or you already did the Save As > Excel 97-2003 Workbook format.
