Greetings all,

I am currently bringing in multiple files (that all have various memo fields) into an Access 2002 db. The files are coming in as tab delimited and from all inspections that I have performed, everything looks ok.

The problem that I'm having is that after performing the import, some of the records come in with the memo fields getting truncated, yet there is no error message generated. I have tried this using an import spec where I have the field defined as a memo field and am using the " delimiter. I've tried importing into a brand new table as well as my existing table and get the same problem. My thought here was that maybe there were carriage controls embedded in the tab delimited file that cannot be seen? Just a guess, anyways, was wondering if anyone could shed some light on to this and could offer a suggestion.

TIA,
Tim

Tim,

Can you post a sample of some of the text? If there are Tab characters, or
record terminators, you may have to write some VBA code to retrieve it.

Greetings Wayne,

That's the thing, there are no odd terminators located in the data. Here's a sample:

IAD has informed the Manager of ICS Billing, Manager of New Accounts and mr. johnson of the issue and they are in agreement that they should possibly change the Policies and Procedures for the department to reflect current protocol. They will look into it and contact the Legal Department before making any such changes., At this distribution policy has been

I mean yes, there are commas and periods, but by defining a field as memo, those punctuation characters shouldn't matter? Are you saying that they do? The other odd thing that I've noticed is that not all records are affected and that there are some items that are longer than my example. These factors are what led me to think it may be some sort of hidden/embedded carriage control, but how would I find it if it were?

ok, I'm rambling, let me know your ideas/thoughts

Thanks for the help Wayne

is it a tab, or comma delimited?

If its comma, then they may effect it.. try importing into excel and see how well it goes
