Incomplete Characters

Incomplete Characters:

• I am bulk uploading data using the excel import tool already built in to a user-interface, in doing so I have noticed some data is missing.
• Initially I thought data was disappearing due to restrictions set, as it shows a certain number of characters then just stops.
• I've checked and the fields are already set to memo in some cases, and where not I have set to memo now.
• I've tried uploading and downloading from the database since, and still see some data disappearing.
• A bit more info:-

1) Today, the upload function seems to be preventing complete text from loading in

• EG "Column 5" was already Memo, and still is.
• Problem is that when I load data in, it restricts the characters being uploaded.
• EG "Row 1" (Column 5, stops mid-sentence)
• BUT it is still possible to keep typing directly into the database in this cell (column 5).

2) The uploading of complete text did work before
3) The downloading of complete text has failed before

• 30/06 I loaded in a bulk amount of data "bulk 1" and it was fine. (I took a download copy after uploading and it showed it worked)
• I then loaded another bulk amount of data on 01/07 "bulk 2", but made no updates to existing data, so no updates were made to anything in "bulk 1"
• The copy of the download after "bulk 2" upload had been input shows that the "bulk 1" data became incomplete BUT "bulk 2" data was fine.
• I have continued with a "bulk 3" upload, including overwriting "bulk 2", my download this time shows some data characters incomplete, which seems to be the first time after an upload.

Got a few questions:
1. Where's the Excel coming from?
2. What is the original format it gets sent?
3. Are there any special characters in the text?
4. Do you see any pattern in the parts that get chopped off? E.g. number of characters read, a space, a special character?

1. The excel is data I have input in to a template created specifically to match each table in the database

2. I haven't taken note of each cells format.
- Given the data got there originally and then disappeared after I would have thought it's not likely the issue on this one?

3. nothing I would call special
/ ( ) - and line spaces

4. of the three I checked one has the not so special characters I mention above, the other a line space, and the other nothing other than text (and spaces). The point at which it's been chopped is similar but not the same, and it happens mid-word.
EG 1 255 with spaces, 216 no spaces
EG 2 253 with spaces, 215 no spaces
EG 3 254 with spaces, 212 no spaces

What happens when you import that spreadsheet into a new table?

A new table within the database?

I can try it, only my colleague set up the database and there are lots of reports and queries linked in to it already.

Do you think it sounds like a glitch that can't be fixed?

I will try tomorrow when I have time again.

Yes a new table within the database. If it's a live database, you want to do it on a test db.
