Incorporating notes and summaries?

I am mid-way through developing a management information system and have been asked to build in functionality to allow users to input notes and summaries that may be up to two full A4 pages of text in length. There may be several dozen of these summaries.

I could use memo fields to hold this data but am a bit worried about the effect this may have on size and the performance of the database. Does anyone have experience of this?

Does anyone have any ideas about how else this might be done.
 
Im sure you'd be able to create a link to say MS Word, where they can type away until their hearts content. They'l be some info on this site if you search on the forum.

Another way could be to output your memo field to a rich text document and store them in a folder.

In the past ive had no difficulties storing large amounts of information in a memo field.
