Is the 11th commandment of Access to avoid the label wizard like the plague?

I'm trying to use the Access 2010 label wizard to produce membership cards. I have picked one record in a membership table for testing. I have a query that pulls information from the record to populate the membership label that will get applied to the membership card.

End result: I get 4 labels in my report. The first label has the information from the membership data. The other three labels are blank. If I pick 2 records, I get 8 labels, etc.

Here is how I am using the label wizard:

1. I highlight the query and then click on the label wizard.
2. I have customized a label for Brother DK-1201 labels. This label is 3.5” wide and 1 1/7th” tall.
3. If I edit the customized label information, the “unit of measure” is English and the “label type” is continuous, the orientation is landscape and there is one label across. Left and right margins are set at 0.12 with the width set at 3.5” and the height set at 1.14”. The other specifications are left blank.
4. On the first screen of the label wizard, I’m using a black Georgia 10 point font with a normal font weight.
5. On the second screen of the wizard, I put the first and last names on the first line, membership number on the 2nd and expiration date on the third.
6. No sorting is selected. (The query sorts by zip code.)

Looking at the result in Print Preview, I then click on Page Setup:
1. On the Print Options tab, I set all the margins to 0.166. “Print Data Only” remains unchecked.
2. On the Page tab, I specify my Brother QL-570 label printer. I set the paper size to 1.17” X 3.5”.
3. On the Columns tab, one column is specified with row spacing of 0, and the column width is 3.5” and the height is 1.1403”. “Same as Detail” is checked (default value). Column layout options are grayed out.

Before printing, I can scroll through the record set at the bottom and see that I have 4 labels. The first one has my information on it and the next three are blank. If I select two records from the membership table, I get 8 records with records 1 and 5 having content and all the others blank.

In my limited experience with Access, the label wizard has always been squirrelly, but I’ve been able to make it work. Not so with 2010!

What should I be looking at or trying? Thanks for your help.

With apologies for taking so long to respond; I've been on the road.

I have to withdraw my aspersions about the Label Wizard. I tried doing it just as a report and ended up with the same problem.

I resolved the problem by screwing around with the margins. My label is 3.5 wide by 1.5 tall. Once I shrunk the printable area down to about 3.25 wide and 1.25 tall, then it worked.

thanks.
