Leading Apostrophe (') when exporting from Access Query

I am exporting a query from Access 2000 to Excel 97 - 2000.
- There are 4 columns (3 text fields and a number field).
After exporting, the text fields data all display a leading apostrophe (') i.e Golf becomes 'Golf, Coil Pack becomes 'Coil Pack, the exported number field is OK.
Why is this? Is it an Access issue or Excel?
