Hey there, I have written a program for a business that does orders, invoices, statements, stock etc. The person I sold a copy of the program to,which is also a friend paid me R5000 for it. His business is a dedicated distributor of Nestle products. There is 30 more franchises that are opening and I have the backing of the guy at Nestle that when those 30 franchises open they will sell my program along with the franchises. This is the first distributal program. The program is specialized for Nestle distributors. Should I license or sell the program. What price range am I looking at. Nestle wants me to maintain the system aswell. Thank You for any help?

Hey Pat, thanks for replying. R is south african currency "Rand".
R5000 is about 600 dollars. Can explain in more detail the contract that i should draw up?

Being a shooter I knew what R5000 was:D

When you say "Nestle" you mean the big company?

If so....I have done 4 for insurance companies and they basically buy the screens/forms. In other words I know more about what is required but they then make it themselves or alter it etc.

I would consider selling on an upfront basis and you are finished after the sale. The maintainance can be a real killer. Although of course it depends on what you are doing with your time.

Nestle wants me to maintain the system aswell.

Again, depending on your own circumstances, I would look to negotiating an upfront deal. The 4 that I did for insurance companies were all on the basis that I did not sell what I had within the insurance industy (insurance agents and other insurance companies) for 12 months.

I recently saw a software maker business go arse up because of making a premium quote system for an insurance company and where they did all the maintainance. Maintainance can and does usually include someone phoning up about a problem and the problem is there laptop has a flat battery:D I kid you not.

I would think the reason your program is a goer is not because you are some guru with Access but because you are tuned into this business with Nestles/Distributors and hence what you make hits the bullseye. Consider selling that ability. In other words your program shows then what they have to make.

Hey Mike, yes Nesle the biggest food distributor in the world and no im not a guru this is my first program that i wrote for a business. What do you think i should charge. What im looking between R7500 and R15000 which includes me flying to each franchise and showing them how to work the program and editing the invoices, doing a few reports etc. You dont maybe have an email address so whe can chat better. Thanks bj
