hi
not sure if this can be done?
i have no problem linking 2 tables via forms so that if i pick a record in one form and close it i automatically go to the corrosponding record in another form. the problem i have is that when i run the link criteria event in one form it filters out all the records in the main form and leaves me with the corrosponding record, all the other records have been filtered out - what i want it to do is upon running the link criteria event in the secondary form is to move the corrosponding record in the main form to the top of the main form so i can view it but leave all the other records visable.
is this possible??

thanks in advance

You need to run a FindFirst instead of applying filter. Post back with additional details if you want further assistance. Are you opening the second form with the WhereCondition argument to apply the filter? Have you used the OpenArgs argument before?

thanks ruralguy - i think i just needed pointing in the right direction. will give those two methods a go to see if i can do what i want.

We'll keep an eye on this thread if you need additional assistance.

problem solved (to my satifaction anyway)
all i do is use the original VB link criteria which was associated with an onclick event on the secondary form and when i goto the linked record on the main form, check that everything is OK on this form and then remove the filter with a command button;

Me.Filter = ""
Me.FilterOn = False

so that all the records in the main table are now visable on the main form.

This might seem a bit pointless to some of you but i'm working on a burial and cemetery database where accurate information is essential.

thanks ruralguy

You're welcome and glad to hear you got it sorted.
