Link two forms so it only records details for selection in one form

I want to record many payments for tenants in a form. I want to enter payments for record 1 which i do, but when i then move to the next record the name and address (top details) etc change as they should but the payment details that i entered for the previous record show up on my next recort too and the one after etc. Its not allocating the payments to that particular tenant that i locate.

As shown in this screenie, next tenant but the payment details that i entered for Tenant in the above screenshot.

It's either the way it's linked or the relationships or maybe a combination of both.

* Did you use the wizard to create this form?
* How are your relationships between Payments and Tenants?

Have you changed any of the design since you uploaded the first version?

I am at home tomorrow so I can take a look and redesign it for you.

I will download your first version if no changes and create a new database.

You have had some good advice from vbaInet.

Please remember you can vote on the thread at the bottom part of this screen

Trevor, where's the voting part? Hmm... I don't see it.

Its the rating feature, in the screen I am looking at it doesn't show, but in the previous reply it was there....

The two forms i created seperately, then drag-and-drop the datasheet view one onto the single form.

The relationships i have them now as:

I know vbaInet's and your advice Trevor G is priceless and is greatly appreciated, but for someone as stupid as me, i cannot take advantage of it.

I have some design changes and relationship changes in attempt to get it working but more than likely i have made it worse.

I cannot see any vote button !

Ok BBK that's a good screenshot you've got there. Unfortunately the design doesn't work and would need to be thought over again. I'm not sure if I gave you any links regarding normalisation? I think I may have.

It would be a good idea for you to get the tables and relationships right before you consider designing your forms.

I think Trevor has offered to redesign it for you so hold fire until then.

@Trevor: Hmm... weird. I've never actually seen the rating feature on this thread. I think the OP can create a poll when they initially create a thread.

Can you post up a good resource on normalization please vbaInet that you would recommend, i dont think you gave me a link before for it, thank you.

BBK

I have created the basics of your database using the details you had in your first uploaded database.

When you open the database a main menu will appear with a selection of command buttons to navigate around the database.

I have tried to look at the order, ie Property First, Property and Tenant (This is where you would add basic details for the Tenant), More detailed Tenant Form, Tenant & Lease (Again this is where you would add basic Lease details), Lease details, finally Payment details for the Tenant.

What I haven't looked at are the queries to give you overall details, but as it works I hope you can move further on.

I think you will need things like reports and a selection of MACROS.

To open the Navigation pane use the F11 key on the keyboard.

I am happy to guide you, and I am sure the community here will help to.

Good luck and I hope this assist you in earning a little more money.

Trevor
