I am not an experienced Access user. I am trying to have options in one combo box depend on what's selected in another combo box. The independent combo box name is - Industry and the dependent combo box name is - Sector. I set up seperate tables one entitled Industry and one entitled Sector. The Sector Table has a column that references the appropriate Industry.

For example, in the Industry table is Automotive and Consumer Products. In the Sector table I created an Industry column with a lookup; Cars, Light Trucks, SUV would fall within the Automotive industry.

Thus, when I go to the Form called Segmentation I would like the combo box Industry to give the options of Automotive and Consumer Products (I have done this) and then when Automotive is selected there would be 3 choices in the dependent combo box Sector of Cars, Light Trucks, and SUVs. I believe I would also need Industry combo box to AfterUpdate as well.

Any help you can give, in as much detail as possible as Access and VB are not my strengths, would be great.

Thanks,
Brian

Search for 'cascading ComboBoxes'

There's no need to post the same question twice.

Watch out when attempting Cascading Combos in Continuous forms

I fought all weekend with "Cascading Combo" issues, and let me just say that:

1. All novices - like me - should be told that Cascading Combos are NEARLY impossible in Continuous forms, which includes Datasheet view.

2. "Nearly" means that SOME cascading is possible with the right form-subform structure, but it means a work-around that is tedious to create. The work-around can be found by searching "Pat Hartman" and "Cascade", I think. If you find the work-around and try to build it you MUST make sure that you refer to your form, subform and controls in the correct manner.

Perhaps one of the forum Moderators - or Pat Hartman herself - would post the workaround in the "Sample Databases" section. FYI for the Moderators: Having searched extensively this weekend, I believe I'm correct in saying that when someone is told to search for "Cascading Combo / Combos / Comboboxes" a vast majority of the hits they get are posts saying "Hey mate; you should search for 'Cascading Combo...' " In other words, it appears the question hasn't been cleanly answered for years.

Having ranted that: I did get great help this weekend from the forum, as always. Thanks to you all!
