Hi- I've never tried this maneuver before, and I need some info before I start messing around.
We have a large production db that's shared by a load of folks. If something gets messed up, all kinds of folks start screaming, so I need to be very careful, here.
I need to extract some data and generate a weekly report for the General Manager. I would prefer to do it remotely, rather than risk causing problems on the main db.
This is what I'd like to know:
If I start a new db and link to the table in the main db, can I then build my queries and reports within my new db, without effecting the main database?
Thanks in advance--
