Does anyone know how to lock a database so it can be accessed by only one person at a time? We have several users using a 'local' copy of the same database and frequently synchronizing with a network copy. We want to avoid a situation where more than one person is trying to synchronize with the master. Please advise - thanks!

Add a table to the network side where when a user synchronzises it adds a tick in a box and removes it when they have finished.

When person 2 trys it, stop them at the tick.

I'm sure you have your reason to have several users with local copies of the DB but it doesn't seem logical to me at this time. unless of course they aren't conected to the network (laptop for example)

Have the user open the db exclusively to lock out any other users. The easiest way would be to use a custom shortcut and the Target value of the shortcut would look like this [everything is on one line]...

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\MSACCESS.EXE" "C:\YourDatabase.mdb" /excl

Also, users should not be sharing a front end. Each user should have a copy of the front end installed on their hard drive and the front end should be linked to the back end on the server and only the shared tables should be in the back end.
