I've started a fairly simple payroll database that is unique to my workplace. I need 3 different pay scales based on the number of days since "date started" and am stumped. If you look at the switchboard and choose "Payroll Report" and type in 1/15/05 you'll see the report as I would like it printed out. The problem is that everyone is at $2.00/hour and that's where I'm stumped.

I'm wondering if someone would be willing to take a look and see if I'm going in the right direction? and offer some help... Thanks

Given that your Total Pay field is

=[Expr1]*2

It's no surprise that they all come out at $2/hour. I don't see anywhere right off where you have any sort of rate structure defined. Where do you think you're getting a pay rate from?

I've made a few changes and uploaded the version.

I've added a new table, which details the hourly rate and then added this table to the Employees query. I've then changed the report the query is based on and it now shows the hourly rate * the no. of hours worked.

Thanks Dave,
That already looks much better than what I had... Just wondering if it would be possible to make things a little more streamlined. All employees start at $1.35/hr. for the 1st 60 days. On day 61 they automatically go to $1.50 for 30 more days. On day 31 (or day 92, depending on how you look at it) they automatically go to $2.00, which is top pay. The one other variable is that any hours above 40 is paid at an additional .10/hour, but only the hours above 40.

Originally, I was thinking of trying to use the "start date" and maybe using a formula to calculate the change in pay, but I got lost :( That's why the "start date" field is there in the form.

Again, Thanks a million for lending a hand. I really appreciate it.

I've added three update queries, which will automatically update the rate of pay depending on the length of time employees have been with the company.

I haven't got time to look at the overtime bit and bobs and the moment, but if you're still have problems I'll have a look at it towards the end of the week

I think I'm all set with the "overtime" hours above 40.

One thing that I would need help on has to do with the pay scale. For instance, for day 1-60 the employee is at $1.35 and then on day 61 he goes to $1.50. If day 61 falls in the middle of the week (let's say Wed.) then he should be paid $1.35 for Sun, Mon, &Tues. He should be paid $1.50 for Wed-Sat. Is this possible? Of course, the day that they "switch" from one pay scale to another could be any day of the week and rarely falls on Sunday, which is the start of our week here. Obviously, this would also apply to going from the $1.50 to $2.00 pay rate.

If you wouldn't mind helping me out with that, that would be awesome. I think that should just about wrap it up on this db, AFAIK right now...Thanks again!
