When trying to protect one of my applications, I really messed up my whole Access system. I no longer have the "Tools" button on my menu bar. It reads as FILE EDIT VIEW INSERT FORMAT but no longer shows TOOLS. This locks me out of many things (Startup options, compact, make MDE etc.)

It started when I added the code:

Dim i as integer
For i = 1 to commandbars.count
CommandBars(I).enabled = false
Next I

to one of my applications.

Holding down the shift when opening does NOT help. The problem has spread to ALL of my databases. Even brand new databases have the problem. It seems that something has happened to the Access default system.

I've tried all the toolbar, customize options I can find but no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm dead in the water until I get this solved.

If you right-click on the menu bar, are you able to see the Forms toolbar there?

That command looks familiar.;)

That command does not remove specific options within a menubar or toolbar. That command only hides the entire menubar or toolbar. Somehow you have removed the "Tools" option from the Access "Menu Bar".

Did you try resetting the Menubar? Right click on the menubar (or any toolbar) and select the Customize... option. Then select the Menu Bar (usually at the bottom of the list) and then click the Reset... button to reset the selected menubar (Menu Bar) back to it's original function and options.

FYI: The 'Tools' menubar option is a part of the built-in menubar collection. You should be able to recreate it from the Customize option by clicking the Commands tab and selection the Built-In Menus option. You will find the Tools menu option near the bottom of the Commands option of the Built-In Menus option.

ghudson, you're the man for menus!

I should have attributed the code to you, but I didn't want to embarrass you if it caused the problem. Your idea to "reset" the menubar worked, but only after I used the commandbars(I).enabled = true before and closed out a trial database. That command has some weird property of carrying across my whole system. All's well that ends well. Thanks for all of your help. :)
