Main form - subform update

I have a mainform with a "Type" field. The subform is linked to the mainform by the vendor name and the type field. I want to change the type field on the main form. When the user changes the type field the subform goes to a blank record. I know why this is acting this way , it's because of the link. How do I make the change in the type field stay as a change and not have the form think it needs to go to a new record. It is a one to many relationship.

So basically, you want Access to NOT act like it is
supposed to? As long as you have that link I think
that it will always do that. If you based the
subform on a query, then you would have total
control over it. But I think that you should
address the problem of "inconsistent keys" first.
