I am an American professor in Europe and here is my problem.

I have an office in New Orleans and I also teach here in Austria.

I am not an expert by any means in Access or Databases, and I am an enduser, actually I teach history, and I tip my hat to the technical wizards. I try to make complicated things in international relations seem simple and hope that I can explain my problem here simply and clearly.

On my New Orleans Computer I have access 2003.

On my Austrian computer I have access 2007.

The New Orleans computer is my main computer where my mailing list (which is quite large) and other data is entered and maintained.

Each month I have my office send me by email attachment a current mdb llist from which I use with Access on my Austrian computer to do a query for the current mailing which I then export to a txt file and send back to My New Orleans Office for them to do a mailmerge in MS Word. It has worked quite well for a year.

I have my database, which we can call my database.mdb file. about 20 MB

And my much smaller structure.mdb file (of which stays the same (except for querry changes) that I use with my database.mdb which is updated by my staff each month.

Somehow my structure.mdb got messed up and when my office now sends me its structure.mdb and database it won't seem to work with my setup here.

I get an error message that says it can't find the path.

Indeed, my directories are a little different on the two computers.

I have done a search and scanned the forum for a simple answer to this problem, but haven't found any satisfactory ones so far.

I don't want to make any new databases or change any structure.

I just want to be able to take my structure.mdb and database.mdb file, put them in the directory on my computer in Austria and use them with my Access 2007.

Is there a simple, step by step. CLEAR way to do this?

thanks,

Dr. Max

I don't know MS Access 2007, but.....

It sounds like you have linked tables and the path to the linked table might not be correct.

In MS Access 2000 there is a utility TOOLS ==> DATABASE UTILITIES ==> LINKED TABLE MAMAGER that can be used to reestablish links between tables. Simply check the check box in front of the linked table and click OK. You will be prompted to browse to the folder where the data tables are stored. click OK again and the links should be reestablished.

Hope this is somewhat helpful.

I am not sure but it seems access cannot the find the path to the mdb. Perhaps one of the experts can give a step by step solution for me.

thanks
