I have a question about Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0

We have a client who does not have Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 on their computers anyome. They recently bought new computers with Office 2007.

They are unable to run a specific functionality in a VB6 legacy application, which has the Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 reference hard-coded into it.

I have incomplete source code for the application (due to the fact that the company who developed it is no longer around) and I am unable to make changes to the application. We're just trying to keep them afloat while we develop a new application for them.

Anyway, can someone tell me how to go about installing the Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 DLL?

Thanks,
Crhodus

VB6 packages the required DLL's for you, I've had clients using Access as a back-end that didn't have any version of office installed. Check the directory where the program resides there should be the DLL's you need. If not then I'm guessing someone moved or deleted them.

Also, use this dependency walker to help you figure out what path the application expects the library to be. It's also possible that installing the new office suite may have altered the original file's location (if the application was looking in the usual office suite library rather than its own library folder).

Currently, the users do not have any version of Access installed on their machine. Is there a way that the Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 can be installed?

Again, the VB6 app should have packaged the required DLL, now if the DLL needs to be registered use the regsvr32 command.

Well, you'd have to have a license to whatever has the JET (e.g. Access). I don't know if Jet file can be distributed, but I strongly doubt that this is the case.

My advice would be to contact Mircosoft and inquire what is needed to have the file available on the computer. JET used to be sold separately, IINM but not anymore. It usually comes bundled with other products, but I can't think off hand what other products besides Access uses it as well.

HTH.
