Hi, can someone explain to me what requirements there are for a server that holds an Access backend file.

Does that server require Access?
It will simply be holding the backend file, nothing more.

All workstations will have Access.

You don't need anything for the server. It can store the backend file and it doesn't need Access.

Good. I thought that was the case, however 'higher ups' are trying to tell me otherwise. Just wanted a second opinion.

The question always comes back to - where does code run for the application?

If it is a file server, the code runs on the client machine accessing the remote file.

If it is a server presenting web pages via Jet, you need something on the server.

If it is a server being accessed by terminal services (such as Citrix), search this forum for "terminal services" and "citrix" to see posts on how that works. Also, since most MS Access licenses are single user, you need to consider a special license to allow multiple users of the same copy of Access.
