Hello everyone.

Hope you are all well! I am moving my database from Access 2003 to Access 2010 (one of the reasons for this is the company is updating (finally) to Office 2010 and we are going onto Windows 7 (been having a bit of a mare with the .ocx files)!

Anyhoooo, I wondered whether anyone had experienced any particular problems with migrating that I need to watch out for (basically any potential issues I may have). I have done a quick test and opened the database in 2010 however it really does not like the calendar control or the DTP I have used - I know I will have to re-do these in some way.

Any advice is always welcome and much appreciated! :D

You are correct. They did away with the calendar control.

Your toolbars and menus will no longer be editable (although they will still be usable)

I don't know what a DTP is.

You won't be able to use Export... to export reports as Excel spreadsheets (if your menus have that selection)

I've seen hotkeys stop working.

There will be a little square on the top left many forms; I'm sure there's a good technical reason why it helps us somehow.

Make sure you understand how security and trusted locations work.

I too am now just starting to migrate my 2003 Access dbase to 2010. The above tips are useful, but can anyone recommend anything else? Maybe a link to a document that covers all the problems I may encounter? Any other documents that might assist with migration?

Thanks all!
Mike

This is more like the opposit of what you are looking for, but it does cover several issues. Sorry, 2003 is a little far back. Would think that 2007 is close to 2003 based on what I remember during upgrade.

The important part is to look at the second part of this link. Import all objects.
1. Make a blank DB copy of Access 2010. Then use the above as a guide, import ALL objects from your Access 2003 into 2010.
2. Reset your options - such as your startup form. It is helpful to take them side-by-side and go down all the options.

Open your Access 2010 and start checkin on what is missing.
Anytime Access 2010 acts quirky or corrupted, do step 2 importing all Access 2010 into a new blank Acces 2010.

The only thing I can think of is recordsets.
If you use recordset you have to change the code to DAO.Recordset.

Thanks for that reminder. Forgot about that.
StrSQL = "SELECT tbl_Users.User_ID, tbl_Users.Activity, tbl_Users.Permit "
StrSQL = StrSQL & "FROM tbl_Users "
StrSQL = StrSQL & "WHERE (((tbl_Users.User_ID)= '" & User_ID & "') AND ((tbl_Users.Activity)='A') AND ((tbl_Users.Permit)='A'));"
Set db = DBEngine(0)(0)
Set rs = db.OpenRecordset(StrSQL, dbOpenForwardOnly, dbSeeChanges)

or
20 Set rst = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("Audit_Archive", 2, dbAppendOnly + dbSeeChanges)

or
30 OldestDate = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("SELECT Min([Publish_Date]) FROM " & RemoteTable & " IN '" & RemoteDatabase & "'", 2, dbSeeChanges).Fields(0)

or
70 Set rst = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset(StrSQL, dbOpenDynaset, dbSeeChanges)

The parameters are no longer optional or assumed. I think this happened on Access 2007
