I have a truly split db. There are 7 users that have fe copies on their desktops. I have one user that gets this error message on one of the forms. The form is completly un-usable but only on one fe. All other fe users have no problems.

Error message:
Microsoft Access cant add, rename, or delete the controls you requested.

I also cannot access the vba window from this form. it will kick me out of the screen.

I have tried putting a new copy on the desktop...same error message. I have tried putting a new form in this fe...same error message. The message occurs when it is open exclusively and when other users have the db open. :banghead:

any help would be great thanks!

When, exactly, does this message pop? When the Form opens, when the user tries to add a Record?

Do the users have full versions of Access on their machines or are they running RunTime?

The form is the switchboard form so it pops up upon opening of the db. All users have full versions

I assume that you're telling me that the error pops when the database is opened and the switchboard Form opens, automatically? Is this 'switchboard' a roll-your-own Form, or one generated by the Switchboard Manager, assuming that the manager is still available in Access 2010?

Sadly, the fact that replacing the Front End file, and replacing the Form, still produces the error, on this one machine, makes me suspect that it is that installation of Access, itself, that has gotten corrupted.

To be honest I have no personal experience with the ins and outs of fixing this. I believe there is a way attempt to repair the installation, but have no idea how, especially in v2010. Barring that, you may have to uninstall then re-install Access.

Maybe some one who has experience with this will wander by and lend a hand.

Sorry I can't be more help.

Thank you so much your recommendation actually worked! It is up and running just fine now thanks again

Good that the reinstall fixed the problem. Hopefully the message was due entirely to corrupted install and you were not actually trying to add, rename or delete controls.

However if you are doing these operations at runtime then it is not a well designed front end.
