Hi all,
I'm a newbie so bear with me.

I have attached my db in both 2007 and 2000 formats.

I would like a table to be able to enter:

BookTitle
BookAuthor
Category
Subcategory
Format

However, I'm having trouble. If I do a select query, no results are returned. And I tried messing with the joins and no luck there. I don't really understand it enough to know what I was doing.

I've spent about three hours searching online on various forums to figure out what I'm doing wrong or what I need to do.

I'm open to all suggestions. I think I'm normalized. But I'm willing to take suggestions on whatever.

Thanks!!

your database is not set up this way. You first need to get rid of the tblBookAuthors. To me, that is redundant data storage, and could easily be stored in the book info table.

Other than that, it looks fine. The reason you can't enter all your data into the book info table is most likely because it is on the MANY side of 3 different relationships, bound by integrity.

hmm...

someone on the utteraccess forum advised me to use the tblBookAuthors as a way to link the authors with the books. i don't think it should be on the tblBookInfo because there's a whole list of authors. it should be on it's own table. but beyond that, i don't know about the tblBookAuthors except it worked.

thanks tho!

that just shows you the difference in opinion, doesn't it? :)

good luck.

no doubt!

would you mind taking a look if i uploaded what i have now? i'm trying to hammer this out tonight. you're the first person who's responded in over 12 hours to my posts on either forum.

i think the tblBookAuthors had something to do with relating things back to the tblBookInfo. but i'm not sure, at this point things are starting to melt together and they either work or they don't :)

you don't have to give me a full edit - it'd just be nice to have another pair eyes take a glance at it!
