MySQL as the upsized 'be' database?

I've two questions:

1. If I upsize my application to MS SQL Server, is there any limitation to the total number of users running MS Access application accessing the same database concurrently?

2. Has anyone tried using MySQL instead of MS SQL Server as the 'be' database?

Thanks...

Hi Hooi,

1. No - at least in my uses/searches. I checked MS SQL Server 2000 books online to double check and in the Maximum Capacity Specifications section it lists N/A as the number of available users concurrently - basically meaning that this is limited more by the user controlled setup, and not SQL Server. We use SQL Server to do all of our web-based dbs and these are accessed by hundreds/thousands of users without so much as a hiccup. Personally, I have a few client/server dbs with MS Access fe/MS SQL Server be's that have 120 users (usually at least half are on at anyone time) without any problems. If you must know an exact number you could try e-mail Microsoft and asking....

2. I have never personally used MySQL but I have heard that it is kind of a "walk-between" for MS Access and MS SQL Server in that it is more powerful then MS Access but not as powerful/functional as MS SQL Server. If you have the choice (cost is always an issue) I would recommend going with SQL Server (or another large DB like Oracle) over MySQL...
