HI - - I have a project due for school and am at a loss.
I found this message board last night and have just been in awe over the amount of info on here.

I'm in a first semester Access class with an instructor who does not appear to know Accews all that well. We have been handed a project and have been encouraged to NOT ask questions on how to complete. Asking questions will result in a lower grade. SO here I am looking for guidance.

The project is a database for a wedding planner.
Required tables are
bride - groom - 4 different vendors - a main table that pulls all the info together for each wedding.

We've been asked to set up a way to handle the guest list for each individual wedding. I am assuming that will end up as a table also. What I can't figure out is how to make sure that when a guest form is filled out, the right wedding couple gets assigned to that guest.

We are to also track the individual balances (and total balance) for each vendor for each wedding.

Also, we have been told our main wedding table will consist of nothing but a bunch of ID#'s (primary keys from the other tables).

We've not had any database theory and all work up to this project has been falling line by line instructions from a book.

I have all my tables and a few queries made. I have the forms made but am stuck on the guest one.

Any and all hints, tips, directions, suggestions, will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds interesting!

You will need to define the following relationships between the tables (using referential integrity):

Bride -> Wedding Table (1 to 1)
Groom ->Wedding Table (1 to 1)
Vendor#1 ->Wedding Table (1 to 1)
Vendor#2 ->Wedding Table (1 to 1)
Vendor#3 ->Wedding Table (1 to 1)
Vendor#4 ->Wedding Table (1 to 1)

Wedding Table -> Guests (1 to Many)

As you have rightly said, the primary keys for the base tables will be referenced in the Main Wedding Table.

The guests table will simply be a list of all guests keyed to the wedding concerned, by the Wedding 'Id' key. This is a unique identifier for the wedded couple and all associated items for the happy day!

The balance totals can easily be calculated for (each) vendor using queries/SQL.

Personally: I would choose a combo box with all Surnames for the wedded couples. Selection of the appropriate surname then updates the Guests table with the guest names and the corresponding Wedding ID.
