Hello all,
So here's my dilemma. I work at a regional office and would like to distribute an Access Front End to all our Distributors. I consulted with our IT Dept and they wouldn't allow me to host an SQL Server that would be exposed to the net for IT security reasons, same reason why they wouldn't create a VPN for all of them.
Another problem is, our distributors have their own IT policies that ban them from installing applications. They already have Access installed as part MS Office which is why I'm sticking to MS Access as a Front-End (well, and because MS Access kicks azz
).
So what options do I have?
1) Is there a way to host an mdb back-end online somewhere and make it accessible remotely?
2) If not, is there a way I can host an SQL Server online and access it remotely?
3) Should I revert to mySQL instead? If so, is there a way to access mySQL databases without installing mySQL connectors?
Or am I stuck with a web-based (html/php) front end?
