I have created a query, then a chart, then a search criteria in a form, then finally, added criterias in the query for spacific data to show in the chart. When I put in the search criteria, then open up the chart, I get an this error: "The Microsoft Jet database engine does not recognize [Forms]![Search]![Color1] as a valid field name or expression". Any Ideas?

I have created other databases in similar ways and have not had any problems as of yet. I am stumped.

I have attached the database for those of you who may be able to help.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I see that if you open it through the search form you don't get the error. The search form must be open and data selected so the report (chart) to retrieve the data it needs. Although I have not been able to populate the chart with any data it could be I am using the wrong parameters.

reel knotty,

Thanks for inout. I noticed the same thing. Try using these perameters:

Color: 200

Begining Date: 7-31-03

Ending Date: 8-11-03

thanks again.

Your form must be open with valid parameters filled in for your query to work without prompting for them

But why put "not is null" for part of your criteria? ColorID is a Primary key and can't be null anyway. Your parameter only needs to be

Forms!search!color1

You can also drop the "not is null" from the date criteria.

The reason for the error message by the way, is that you must explicitly declare the parameters with a crosstab query. Go into design view>Query >parameters and enter then in the list.

Thanks Guys, I was looking for the answer to this one and found it here to! I also had a chart on a form that was causing the above error.

The chart data came from a query and the criteria of one of the query "Date" field came from another form where the user inputs start and end dates. The criteria was "Between [forms]![frmselectcriteria].[StartDate] and [forms]![frmselectcriteria].[EndDate]" and I kept getting the error. I did not know you had to "explictly" declare the criteria in the query itself. Thanks a million.
