Hello friends,

I been a member of Access-programmers for like 5-6 days now, and since then i learnt quite a bit about access database's.

Since i was completely new to access database took a while before i could conjure a database.

At the moment i have a table with two fields i.e Keyword and Description.

I have a query and i have managed to make a criteria for keyword field:
Like [forms]![formname]![fieldname] & "*" and i am able to pull out results depending upon the keyword searched.

The challenge is i am not able to make a form with unbound values.
I need help with creating a form which has 2 fields i.e Keywords and Description and a search button. Once i type in the keyword and hit search it should display the results in the description field.

Help / instructions appreciated.

1> Create a form with text box for the user to give the input

2> Set those input as criteria in a select query .. the syntax you have written is right

3> Make a sub form in your initial form to display the output of the select query ...

4> In the command button .. either refresh data or Requery to show the values.

5> Also, if you want to avoid the Text boxes ... Under the criteria of query write : [Type the value] ... when you run the query, msg box and it will ask for the input .. based on the input the records will be displayed ..

I have uploaded a sample for you.
Try and have fun.

I tried, but cant get it working, can you please provide a sample DB

I'll try, make and send it to you ...

Thanks in advance, i just went trough a post by John Big Booty.

The sample DB provided by him is amazing but it involves to many complex operations.

I liked the search interface he has made, but it is complex. table Joins etc.

John is an expert ... he cracked that clarification I hv asked so nicely. I took 30mts to understand his logic.

I have attached a DB for you with two types of links through sub forms ... By a text box and also by a combo box.

Happy learning !

** File is big and so confirm receipt.

If you didn't, share ur email to send it. Thanks.

Dear John .. you simply rock. You are my motivation now to learn more and master this powerful tool. The one u have shared is a pretty excellent sample covering all the options and a quick refresh ...

In this, is it possible if I have to search for two or more values in same field ... for eg: If I have to search for 3 colors Red, White and Rose in color field ... how to do that ?

@Qualia .. my file bounced back. Please give me your email ID .. i can fwd my database.

Thanks
Alvis

In the sample the default is that that None of Red, White or Rose are selected, so they are all included in the search terms.

@Alvis please mail it to me at aceanoop@yahoo.com

Cheers !

John -

Good morning.
I understood that .... the clarification I asked is for eg: If the color field is having 5 Colors say Red, Blue, Yellow, Green and Black.

I should have a check boxes in the user form for all these colors. I can pick either one color, or 2 colors or 3 colors ... based on that input in the user form, the values should be automatically be transferred to select query and I would like to see the result.

In otherwords, if I'm writing directly on the query criteria .. i will write like Like "Red" or "Green" or Black ... how to get the same as an input through user form and then get that used in the select query.

Alvis, perhaps this version is more along the lines of what you are looking for.

Hi John,

In the new sample you provided i.e firstport.db, in case we want to click on the search result form the list box and open it in a new window, what would be the procedure ?

Cheers !

Have a look at the Double Click event of the sample I linked to in Post #7.
