I have a main form with 2 unbound combo boxes. When I drug the icon for my subform over to the main form and tried to link the fields, it said:

Can't build a link between unbound forms.

I know there has to be a link between the forms but I cant figure
exactly what I need to look for or actually what I am doing!!!
(I am trying to link the employee id fields on both forms.)

Could you give me some help in the right direction?

Thanks, NOreene

1.)Both form's recordsources need to have the EmployeeID included.
2.)When that's done, you can drop your subform on your mainform and Access should find the common EmployeeID link.
Since that doesn't seem to be happening, you may need to adjust the forms' recordsources.

If your subform is already located on your mainform, then you can select your subform's outer edge(top) in design view and click the Data tab on the property sheet. The Link Child Fields and Link Master Fields properties need to be set to the EmployeeID. If not, then set them to EmployeeID in each field. If EmployeeID isn't available in the lists, then you should adjust the forms' recordsources to include the common EmployeeID field.

P.S. The Link Child Fields and Link Master Fields properties should show up if you click the top of the form. (not the left-hand corner where the black dot shows up).

Post again if something doesn't make sense.
