Need Permission to Import a Form?

Well, I'm stumped. I have been working on pulling an existing database from ACC97 into ACC2K. Everything seems to work alright until I get to the forms. I established a Developers group and a SuperUser account and closed down the Admin on the new database and opened up the permissions on the old database. Tables and queries imported readily but I get an error message saying I do not have the necessary permissions to import the object (forms). Any ideas?

I subscribed to the Forms Forum and searched for import problems. Of the 244 items returned about a dozen or so discussion threads dealt with various form importing problems but nothing directly addresses this one. Thanks.

Serial Imports is the Key

I am going to answer my own question by reporting a work-around that I found; maybe someone will get some use from it or can explain to me why I have this problem and why this works.

OK, here is the background. I have a database that I created in MS Access 97, db-A-97, that I wish to move into MS Access 2000, db-A-2K. I have a separate workgroup file for each version of Access (it was my impression that I need a separate workgroup file for each MS Access version – is that my first mistake?). When I tried to import db objects from db-A-97 into db-A-2K, I get the error that I do not have the necessary permission. After several frustrating attempting at analyzing and fixing the problem, I decided to find out what does work. I have several dbs which I created in MS Access 97 so I tried importing a form from db-B-97 into db-A-2K and that step worked fine. Therefore, I imported one of my forms from db-A-97 into db-B-97, which works without error. I then imported the same form from db-B-97 into db-A-2K and that works just fine, also. So, that's how I imported all my forms: from db-A-97 to db-B-97 and then from db-B-97 to db-A-2K. I cannot help but feel that I am overlooking a trivial step in establishing permissions but I have not been able to find it. Thanks for letting me rant and rave.

I just had much the same problem trying to import a query from one A2k3 db to another A2k3 db. In the end I changed my approach, exported from the original to the secondary and that worked. Ah well, it worked in the end :)

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why didn't you simply try opening the 97 db using v2000, at which time you would be given the opportunity to convert the 97 db to a 2000 db? At any rate, you probably could benefit from looking at Allen Browne's paper on converting from 97 to 2000 and beyond:
