Need to programatically link front end to backend data

I get how to use the RefreshLink method, but as I understand it that only refreshes the link to a new source. I need a way to reestablish a broken link.
This has been happening every once in a while when my users are on the program and the lan goes down. The program resides on the harddrive and the data is on the lan.
