I have done a lot of searching and reading here. (I could probably do it all day...) I hope this question isn't too general.

I am using Access 2007. If I create an application or module or form (not sure which one is correct term) that will be used for data entry on a network; does each user or workstation need a copy of Access 2007 installed on their computer? Or is there some kind of a run-time or Database Engine that I would use instead. In the past we had used Visual dBase or Delphi to create programs for data reasearch and entry. To run them on the individual workstations all I needed to do was install the Borland Database Engine on each machine. Is the process with Access going to be similar to this? I guess I am trying to figure out if I am going to need to buy multiple copies of Access (one for each computer that will be used for data entry) or if I will just need a single copy for the designer/programmer.

From my reading, I found that I have to read up on FE and BE. I have bookmarked many messages here that will provide me futher help. But I didn't find any that seemed to answer this question outright.

Everyone here so far has been really helpful and tolerant to my "beginner" questions and I really appreciate that.

Thanks in advance.

Heather

Each user, at the moment, would need a separate copy of Access 2007 on their machine UNTIL Microsoft gets the new Access 2007 runtime out to us. At that point you can create an MDE file (ACCDE) and run it on a workstation with the Access 2007 runtime (supposed to be free, which it didn't used to be). But, until they come out with it (and I think many of us are anxiously awaiting it) you may be in need of separate Access licenses.

There is an Access Runtime to develop a solution that doesn't require that the user has access installed, I don't know however whether it's been released for 2007 yet although it appears the MS will release the tools for free as a download:
Found some information on an MS developer's blog:

Thanks

Wow! Thanks for the quick responses.

I truly can't imagin how long it is going to take me to get everything designed so by the time I am ready I am sure the run-time will be out. (If not a new version!) I will keep reading and researching and I will watch for this release.

Thanks again.

Heather
