Nomikers

Now your showing off - that's not allowed.

There's over 100 fixtures on this list.

My favourite is the Islands Canal Swim at Hartesbeerpoort Dam......(borehole water, not dam water)

Google Earth 25 45' 28" S 27 50' 47" E

The reptile park / snake park is still there. Never can spell the name of that dam place - I'm sure they had beer there and not bees.

In the 1980s they had a zoo there, they housed ex film/TV industry animals, such as Clarence from Daktari and the Chimp from the Tetley Tea Adverts. The snake park was part of it, but not as popular as the one out at Kylami.

Shouldn't your ID be Oumaheksie ? (being a Pom I'm not too sure about this.....)

Ah, you mustn't mix me up with Liewe Heksie, my South African cousin, she being a lovely little thing an all... ;)

I have a "Smiley" that swims up and down, up and down, up and erm....down again. How can I attach that as an Avatar next to my Nomiker? I am 48 yrs old and "found" long distance open water swimming earlier this year. I'm not much good yet, but I get to swim alongside the likes of Natalie Du Toit and Chad Ho.....well for the first few seconds anyway.

That's awesome! I love to hear when people find something to be passionate about. I wish there was a way to put that avatar there as well. Maybe you could make it your main avatar? ;)

I came up with mine becuase the Free Range Witch (Oumahexi) did a nice thing for me, hence I am now with the witch.

That makes sense, and rather clever, at first I thought that maybe you were her significant other, but now see that I was wrong. Everything I've read that has been posted by Oumahexi seems very helpful and nice. She seems like a great person to be a fan of. :)

Endre,

South Africa must be an interesting place, I keep running into people from there. Two of my best friends are from Johannesburg. Their mother is native and there father met her there when he was working there, though they lived in Egypt for many years. Also, the parent company of the company I work for is in Durban, and our president and owner are South African....

Here is the link to the swimming smiley i use: http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/18/18_4_100v.gif

I've tried getting the smiley in several times, but it won't work. Never mind. Yes, South Africa is an interesting place - I have been here 11 years now having moved from England, York when working worldwide with Nestle. My parents moved to the British Virgin Islands when I was 8 yrs old, then on to Malawi and several other overseas countries. I was doing so much business travelling worldwide with Nestle I decided to emigrate permanently to CapeTown and have since moved to Jo'burg. That's the short version.

Ouma in Afrikaans means Grandmother, and Heksie means Witch - hence OumaHexi -> OumaHeksie. And I adore the Scottish Band - Camera Obscura http://www.myspace.com/cameraobscuraband. That's enough - no more promo links.

By the way I have two unanswered Posts - one I thought questioned nicely - unanswered (Thread 176161). So I repeated my question in a completely different tangent - but in a "different way" (Thread 176440). Still no answers. So what happens now?

BTW - Chad Ho got the Bronze in the 5Km swim yesterday at FINA Rome. And KeriAnne Payne got the Gold in the 10Km today - well she was originally from South Africa.

Were these posted today? Sometimes it just takes time. Also, double posting is not a good idea, if you want your post to move back up in the line you could ask for a response in your original post.

I realise double posting is not a good idea - but if you look at them, they appear to be quite different problems. However an answer to either of them will resolve my one problem. The first one was posted last week.

Anyway - this link has been hijacked for too long. What about using gif images in our Avatars? Or dynamic multicoloured text in our Nomikers. Who do we ask so they can say to the forum design team "...Make it So...."

Hmmm. I think there is a forum for suggestions for the site.

I looked at one of your threads, and am sorry to say, that I have no idea how to answer it. Sorry.

I don't mind the hijack. I enjoyed the conversation :)

In between postings of overseas contracts, and during school holidays at home we would be a little bored so my dad played a lttle game with us - the end result being a "mystery tour in the car". We would take a sheet of paper and write a one line directional instruction, fold the paper over so you couldn't read it, and then hand it over to the next person to write a new instruction and they fold it over. After a while we would all get in the car, unfold the paper, and follow the instructions e.g :

1. Take second left after seeing a red car passing in opposite direction.
2. Next right after white fencing.
3. Turn left after the next pub.
4. Do a U-turn after 3 minutes driving (legally).
5. 2nd right after next traffic light.

Seems like this sort of thing happens on these open links when they get hijacked - you don't know where they will end up.

What an apt analogy! And what a fantastic game. I'll need to remember that for when I have kids someday. :D

You need to have additional rules e.g if you come to a T junction, what do you do? In our case it was always alternate between left, right, left. If you get on a highway and the instruction is not possible (turn right after next mother and baby pedestrian) - then you get off at next junction - again alternating left, right once you are off.

Good decision. I love Jo'burg, it's so cosmopolitan. The Cape can get too cold in the winter and Natal gets too sticky in the summer.

Ouma in Afrikaans means Grandmother, and Heksie means Witch -
that would explain why my grand children call me OumaHexi, their mother being South African :D

I'm glad this makes you happy ;)

6. Hastily exit the car at the point of Car Jacking at Gun Point and run like F*ck.

Great game :rolleyes::D
