I found this message somewhere on this forum and cannot get back to it. If 2007 won't run code from 2003, then I'm assuming that 2010 won't either. I do not understand the implications of 'trusted location' or 'explicitly enabled'. I have a couple of pretty complicated applications that were developed in 2003. One of them is our billing system and we can't afford for it to go down. I'm seeing spots before my eyes and having to breath from a paper bag since reading the message below. Can someone please fill me in?

Thanks,

Cherry

Re: Access 2003 app stops working after 2007 upgrade.
2007 will not run code unless the db is stored in a trusted location, or code has been explicitly enabled. Office Button/Access Options/Trust Center.

It really is no big deal. Access 2007 and 2010 just have it so that code and dangerous macros can't run automatically UNLESS you have defined the location as a trusted location. It is simple to set (see here for how to do it) and it really is no big deal. It can be a little tricky if you are trying to use the RUNTIME instead of a full Access installation. You would have to create some registry entries (seen here) in order for things to work like you would want.

I think you may be just looking at where somebody didn't know about the Trusted Location and how to use it to get code to run. It's not "if it's not 2007, it must DIE IN FIRE NOW" deal. All it means is that you just have to make sure your files are in the right place (e.g. in a Trusted Location) then code will run normally.

Trust Center is basically what replaced 2003's security dialog that we all ignored everytime we opened an Access database.

No need to be afraid.

But yes, there can be some issues but you should test them first and see what kind of changes, if any, you need to make.

I've gone through all our databases here at work in preparation from going from 2003 to 2007 (I wish we could do 2010) and there are a few minor changes we need on SOME of the databases; not all of them. It really all depends on what you have used and how you have used it as to whether things need to be changed.

Thanks! I feel much better now. I really do appreciate this forum.
