Number Format

How do I format one of my fields so that any zeros in front of a 4 digit nunber will remain

for example:

when pasting data from excell in an access table

0002145 reads 2145
002146 reads 2146

I need the zero's to remain in the table

The field will have to be a text field as the length of the number is inconsistent.

That's how I originally had it set out, until I ran the Performance Analyser and was recommended to change the field to Number format.

guess there is no harm in keeping it as text

If the length were consistent then you could format a number, but to do it with what you have would require more code than is practicle... Text is good!
