Number issued by Dates

I have a table which holds Dates (in date format) on when PPE was given out to employees (Ear Plugs, Boots, Goggles etc...) and i need to make a report that can be printed out showing the total number of items issued (e.g Ear plugs in 2002)

Is there a formula that can add dates up and give a total?

if you are going to be filtering the records firstly prior to opening the report just use =count(*) If you are not filtering the records you can group your data and do a count for each group.

I tried =count([SafetyBoots]) and when i run the report i get #Error!!!

Any ideas?

Please forgive my ignorance amongst such esteemed experts - I have never been trained in Access, vba or anything else (They did not have computers when I was at school). My point is - I may well be well of the mark here.

I have found that if you have a control such as =count([SafetyBoots]) , you must have a field whose control is SafetyBoots in the detail of the report.
