Number of groups on a report

I have a report which includes grouping. The number of groups can vary. The report then gives me a grand total at the end. But I then need to add a set amount multiplied by the number of groups. Can anyone tell me how to arrive at the number of groups every time the report is run but without using Visual Basic. Thanks.

Add an unbound textbox to the group header, set its control source to =1, set the running sum property to overall, you now know the total
