Hi,
I use access for a library finding aid. I need to number things in this manner- A.1, A.2, A.35, A.125, B.1, B.2, B.3, B.125 etc... I dont want to use decimal spaces out to the hundredths in order for access to sort them and when i made a seperate field for the letters, that didnt work either....any suggestions how my table can look like this
A.1
A.2
....
A.100
A.101
B.1
B.2
.....
B.10
B.11
etc

Not as elegant as Pat's but another solution is to add leading zeros to your list:

A.001
A.002
....
A.010
A.011
....
A.100
B.001
B.002

etc.

This should also get the sort to work properly.

Just worked out however that this is what you meant by not wanting to use decimal places into the hundreths....Doh!:o
