I have a new user who is trying to connect wirelessly. I set up the ODBC connection on his laptop but when he tries to run a report that uses queries looking at linked tables he gets ODBC call failed. Is it because he is trying it wirelessly. I'm just the data guy so I don't know too much about networking.

I haven't tried it, but I've heard from many people that Access does not "play nice" on a wireless connection. If the application works for everyone else, I'd certainly suspect the wireless connection as the problem.

All of our WAH (work at home) people are on wireless laptops, and all of them hit ODBC without an issue. Access in particular doesn't care about the connection type. Instead, the server may be setup to expect something else. If you're working through a VPN, you'll need an administrator to configure that properly. (It's different for each setup, so I can't really help out here.)

One quick test of this theory is to have the new laptop guy plug in to a "normal" wired connection and see if the problem persists. Also, can the new person hit the Internet and do everything else online besides the ODBC connection?
