It's been a really disturbing week to say the least. I don't think I have ever felt the spiritual weight of what happened affect me as much as this particular historical event of political violence. I know I'm not the only one. Even the mafia has better morals than that and would at least do it in secret and certainly not in front of the guys family. This shooter made a spectacle out of it right in front of his wife and young kids. The shooter sympathizers have lost their collective minds if they think that Charlie was racist or fascist in any way. He was only labeled that because he is a conservative and doesn't have the same point of view on important issues like abortion, pardoning all J6'ers, and the 1st and 2nd amendment and capitalism. It is disgraceful to think that supporting the 2nd amendment to our constitution somehow makes him deserve this horrific act of violence, but this is what believing repeated lies about someone who actually makes a difference can do. It encourages hatred for others beliefs and words they speak. These are not hateful words mind you, they are principled beliefs and points of view that are shared by a large amount of the population. If he had said anything hateful, I would be the first to call him out on it. He never said anything that deserved this sort of reaction.
There are many people that die from violent acts, but they don't come close to having the political influence and background of actually being a voice of reason in the lions den of our campus culture in an attempt to change young minds and undo the wicked things they are all being indoctrinated to believe. He walked the walk and wasn't afraid of the massive amounts of threats that no normal victim of crime ever has to deal with. If you are an effective political influencer, you have a target on your head from the those who have been indoctrinated into dehumanizing those they disagree with.
The saddest thing beyond the suffering of his wife and eventually his kids as they get older is that he had a pretty good chance of becoming president one day. I know I'm not alone on this one either. No one has the funds for super good security like our secret service this early in a political career. He had some basic security, but obviously not nearly enough to handle such an open event like the one in Utah. I'm guessing that in the future, if one has such a high level of threats, they will be forced to enter the bullet proof plexiglass booth as they do their public events.
