Recently received another CS degree from a local community college. I am an old data processing guy being retrained as an IT Specialist. The old skills learned in the 1960's still seem to be useful today, but the technology has changed markedly.
The local community college has hired me as a part-time IT Specialist to address projects that the college IT department does not have the resources to tackle. Last year I developed a multi-user Microsoft Access 2010 application for a department. They haven't broken it yet. Three weeks ago they asked me to develop a new, more robust, version of the application. Success breeds opportunity!
In addition, the Continuing Education department of the college has hired me as a part-time Adjunct Instructor. I am teaching Microsoft Office 2010 products as well as other, non-credit, courses not normally found in the curriculum (e.g. project management).
This forum will likely provide me with a great many useful tips and tricks, as well as an opportunity to share some of my knowledge with forum members.
