Okay,

I have a database that is split, and I have made a backup copy of the back end. I have a lot of network problems, and every few records I get an error and the bad record has to be removed and re-entered.

My strategy for this has been to open both the original table and the backup, to copy the good records into the backup, and then to discard the main copy, back-up the other copy, and re-enter the corrupted record. This has been working quite well, until just now.

I just had the usual error, and went to open my tables, and Access will only let me open one database at a time. I tried renaming the backup, I have restarted a couple of times, and it still won't let me open both at once. I can open either one of them, but when I try to open the other one, my original window gets focus, and the second database simply will not open. I can open the Northwind Traders sample database and my database, but not my original and backup. And I could do this earlier today!!

Any ideas why this is happening? Any thoughts on how I might get around it?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

I recommend you keep a good backup copy somewhere, then compact and repair your database and see if that fixes the problem.

Thanks, I have tried that. When I compact and repair the database it usually transforms itself into "unrecognizable database format" for some reason.

I did solve my problem just now, by creating a blank database and importing the tables from the backup, then copying the good records that had not already been backed up into the appropriate tables. Now I just have to re-enter the record that got messed up, and I should be good to go.

I still don't know why it wouldn't let me open both at once; I can do so now with the "new" one.

Thanks anyway!
