Open database from hyperlink int Internet Explorer

I need to open a database from a hyperlink in Internet Explorer.
Here's my link: file://c:/databases/dbname.accdb

If I put the above in the Windows Start Run it opens. If I enter into the web browser address bar it opens. Anybody know why it won't open from a link?

Because your browser can only view webpages (html and what not) not .accdb files

When you run cmd, its windows explorer that runs the DB
