open form to new record

Hi,

i have a form that has various buttons. one button will open a form to add a payment based on the person shown on the main form. how can i open the new form to be ready for a new record but already set up for the person shown? for example:
"main form" the name shows Nigel Shaw
press button " add payment"
Payment form opens on top ready to receive info with my name already shown.

i have based my payment form on a qry and i core around ContractorID

I'm not sure what controls (Textbox, Combo box, ect) you have on your main form and payment form. Can you provide a little more detail?

Maybe for a textbox:

DoCmd.OpenForm "Form2"
Forms!Form2.Textbox2 = Form1Textbox

Hi T.Smith,

thanks for the reply. i had another idea instead as i wasnt comfortable with ALL of the info coming from the query. what i have done instead is:
makepay form shows same as current person on main form using "where"
makepay has subform that shows current payments
makepay has subform that enters new payments.

this way, i am sure that all of the info entered is for the right person.

If your db is set up correctly payments should be a subform
