I have a spreadsheet(Microsoft Excel 2003) that when I open, 2 versions open. One is titled "PTWOP Roster.xls:1" and the second is titled "PTWOP Roster.xls:2". I can see no differance between the two spreadsheets, in fact when I enter a single character in one cell on the first it is duplicated in the second.
When opening this spreadsheet it opens Excel twice. One titled with the :1 and the second titled with the:2
I also noticed that when I had another spreadsheet (named "A") open, before I open the problem spreadsheet, it opened a second version of Excel with "A" being duplicated.

An thoughts on what is causing this problem.

Howdy. Perhaps what happened is that whoever built the spreadsheet saved it with an additional option to create an automatic backup.

In the "Save as" dialog, click on Tools in the upper right of the dialog box, and from drop down choose General Options. At the top of the resulting dialog box you will see the option "Always create backup". Be sure that is unchecked.

(Perhaps you did the same when you posted two identical threads ;) )
